LOVE WANT MAGAZINE
November 2021 Text by Holly Pollard Following a line, a sun-dappled path, a fissure in a rock face - Bianca Lee Vasquez uses her body as a tool, a vehicle for exploration through which meanings emerge. Working via movement, via gestures in symbiosis with the natural turnings of the earth, whether through drawn image, sculpture, performance or photography, Vasquez’s practice does not impress upon its environment, but rather translates it, un-covering nuances that usually pass undetected by human eyes. Surrendering to entropy, to the impossibility of capturing the transformative and transient, Vasquez enters her practice as one might walk through an unknown landscape, with polite hesitance, curiosity and respect. Inevitably, identity comes into play, like a question posed, the human form is constantly re-purposed and re-placed. We are invited to consider our part in the world, but are warned we should not expect an answer. Faceless bodies move playfully, choreographed by the architecture of a woodland. With damp moss, warm sunlight and the roughness of bark on bare-skin, we embark on a visceral dialogic. The body is at once exposed and camouflaged. Drawing upon her surroundings - whether at home in Paris, sharing experiences with friends and family, or reflecting upon her Cuban-Ecuadorian origins - Vasquez’s practice exposes nature as the great connector, in all places, to all people. Rivers meet, breaking into a clearing and lost landscapes shift, gripped beneath ivy. Bodies arrive and leave each frame. Lands lay, trees stand and nature opens as we embrace in perpetual life, decay, ruin - and again, life. See more here.

February 2022 Amazonas (2017), a photo series taken in the amazon jungle of Brazil, is featured in this new book. This publication brings the reader a selection of 35 artists/spaces for creation and exhibition in Latin America that are a reference for the development of the state of the art, not only in the region but worldwide, each in its own way. Composed of images from each space and exclusive interviews with their respective directors and curators, the book brings together unavoidable and original places that today represent the greatest poles of thought and avant-garde in contemporary Latin-American art. WEEPING SUN
October 2021 44 rue Sainte Anne, 75002, Paris Sharing with you our third show. For their exhibition ‘Weeping Sun’, Romy Texier and Valentin Vie Binet develop for Sainte Anne Gallery an urban phyto ecosystem, concrete Eden. Inspired by weeds or more precisely by these resilient plants that manage to grow through the asphalt, the duo presents a new series of hybrid sculptures, between living organisms and architectural structures. ‘Weeping Sun’ is conceived in parallel with a fiction by Mathieu Buard, curator and contemporary art critic, whose writing is done simultaneously with the making of the works. This December I was given a beautiful space to live and work in central Havana, where I worked on collaborative photographs with ALIZÉE GAZEAU and an earthbody intervention with a sick tree I found in untamed nature somewhere between Havana and Las Terrazas.
